The Planning Commission is a citizen committee which give an independent recommendation to elected officials relating to land use and development.
Utah law allows cities to set up planning commissions with the following duties and powers:
The elected officials may request the planning commission to make special studies, schedule programs, work sessions or field trips to consider policies and recommendations
To administer the regulations of the zoning ordinance
To adopt a general plan for the physical development of the city
To adopt zoning ordinances, establish zoning districts and maps, review amendments to the zoning ordinance and maps
To approve conditional use permits
To make a recommendation to the city council
To review subdivisions, their regulations and amendments
Appointments
Planning Commissioners are Ogden citizens who want to become involved and volunteer their time because they are interested, and often passionate, about what is going on in Ogden City. They serve four year terms and are appointed by the Mayor with consent of the City Council.
