On Tuesday, June 21, 2016, the Ogden City Council tentatively adopted the Fiscal Year 2017 budget, which includes the Mayor’s proposal for a 35.46% property tax increase to more adequately fund public safety salaries and expenses. The increase is close to the amount of a General Obligation Bond that is expiring this year and is anticipated to have little to no net impact on residents.

Council Chair Marcia White said, “The last time Ogden City had a property tax increase was in 1987. This year’s budget process provides a valuable opportunity to review our existing property tax rate and evaluate options that help us to maintain competitive salaries for our police officers and firefighters.”

An open house about the proposed budget and property tax increase will be held on July 26th from 5-6:00 p.m. at the Ogden Municipal Building (3rd floor). Residents are encouraged to come and interact with City Council Members and staff.

The City Council will also receive public input during a Truth in Taxation hearing that will be held at the Municipal Building on August 9, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. The Council will adopt a final FY2017 city budget during this meeting.
